What is Coil?

Coil is an operating system for vending businesses. It tracks the products you buy, where they go, what they sell for, what you spend, the sales tax you owe, what each location is owed, and what you actually make.

Is Coil just inventory management software?

No. Inventory is the foundation, but Coil also covers machines and locations, sales, receipts and expenses, mileage, sales tax, location payouts, and profit reporting, all built on the same records.

Can I track inventory costs and receipts?

Yes. Each purchase is recorded as a lot with product cost, shipping, and purchase tax split into a per-unit cost basis. Original receipt photos and PDFs are stored privately and linked to the lots they support.

Can I manage multiple machines and locations?

Yes. Locations hold contact details, commission terms, and an optional sales tax rate. Machines are placed at locations, and stock can move between warehouse storage and machines.

Can Coil calculate location payouts and profit sharing?

Yes. Each location can use a gross percentage or a net profit share, and individual machines can override it. Coil calculates the payout owed from recorded sales and shows profit per location after payouts and location expenses.

Can I track mileage, expenses, and sales tax?

Yes. Mileage trips record ordered stops, miles, and the rate used. Expense receipts can be attached to a location. Sales tax to remit is tracked per sale, including tax backed out of tax-included vending prices. Coil keeps the records; it does not file taxes for you.

How do sales get into Coil?

Export the sales report from your vending software and have an AI agent import it through Coil's MCP tools, or record a few sales by hand in the app. Imports are previewed before anything is recorded, duplicates are skipped, and mistakes can be undone.

What is MCP, and how does Coil use it?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI clients use tools from other software. Coil runs an MCP server, so a compatible client you connect with a scoped API key can read your records and perform supported actions such as importing sales, logging mileage, or processing receipts.

Do I need to use AI to use Coil?

No. The Coil app is a complete way to run your business. MCP is an additional interface for operators who already work with AI tools.
